Marble Polishing, Honing and Refinishing

Does your marble have dull areas associated with wear patterns, scratches, etches or spots? An uneven finish, dull spots or etches can marble polishing diminish the elegant appearance of your marble surfaces. Beyond Clean Tile can hone your marble surfaces to eliminate these imperfections, resulting in a new marble surface free of damage. With our marble honing and polishing services, our expert technicians can achieve a honed or soft matte finish that is warm, inviting, and velvety smooth. We can also polish your marble using the appropriate diamonds or polishing powders to achieve a semi-gloss or gloss finish.

Professional stone refinishing can often alter the finish of stone using various methods, even after it is installed. Our technicians are very knowledgeable and discuss with our customers the different types of finishes possible for their marble floor or countertop and the maintenance that is involved with each so that each customer can choose the type of finish they will love the look of but also one that fits their lifestyle. We can do a honed (egg shell finish), satin (gloss finish) or polished (high gloss finish).

Why is Beyond Clean Tile’s marble refinishing processes superior to other polishing systems?

1. Our skilled technicians use resin diamonds to achieve the highest quality finish. Resin diamonds provide a better shine and a finish that will last longer than those refinished by diamond impregnated pads often used by others in the industry.

2. Our technicians are trained to use many different types of diamond and abrasives. This allows them to pick and use the best tools that will give you the highest quality of finish.

3. Our stone technicians work with natural stone daily and are well versed in stone identification and knowing the characteristics that make each stone unique. This allows them to perfect the art of stone restoration.

4. Our technicians can walk you though our maintenance best practices so you can keep your marble floors and countertops looking their best even after we leave.

Whether you are seeking guidance on how to remove marble stains or discolorations yourself or want us to treat your marble, the original finish of your stone can be more often than not, be restored.

Marble Cleaning and Sealing

Marble Floor Cleaning Marble is easier to keep clean with periodic professional deep cleaning services, using non-acidic, highly-effective cleaning solutions. For marble floor cleaning, our cleaning process is called hot water extraction. Our equipment is designed to maintain heat around 200 degrees fahrenheit. Most carpet cleaner’s equipment aren’t able to sustain this type of heat through the whole job because they are designed to heat a lower volume of water. With more heat throughout the job we are able to achieve a deeper and more consistent clean throughout the job. We also detail around the edges by hand to make sure all the details are taken care of. This process will only clean the floor and will not address damaged areas such as scratches, traffic pattern wear or etch marks. To remove the damage the floor must be refinished.

If you have stains or marks on your marble countertops that you find can not be removed, we can let you know if these stains are actually etch marks caused by acids in things such as soft drinks or orange juice. If this is the case then the countertops more than likely need to be honed and refinished. Not sure if your marble needs to be refinished? Read more about marble cleaning vs. marble refinishing.

Once your marble countertops are cleaned and restored, we may recommend you have us seal them to enhance their stain resistance. We say, “May” because not all stone needs to be sealed. Highly polished marble may not even take an impregnating sealer. But, if sealing is recommended, know that marble sealing represents an inexpensive, preventative measure against marble stain damage. There are many misconceptions about what a sealer does and doesn’t do. It is important to note that sealers do not prevent traffic patterns or etching. The surface of the stone is still vulnerable to acidic substances, scratches, dullness, and other damage. In addition, natural stone, even when it is properly sealed, is not stain proof, it is merely stain resistant. There are also new protective treatments that, unlike impregnating sealers, offer both etch and stain protection. We can give you recommendations based on your specific surfaces.

Marble Cleaning and Polishing FAQ's

Using products to make your marble floor artificially shine will not last and can cause more harm than good. It is best to have your marble floors professionally refinished using diamond tooling. This allows the professional to hone (sand down) and remove any damage from the floor and bring the floor back up to your desired level of shine.

For most households having your marble professionally cleaned on an annual basis will help keep your marble clean and help limit the amount of wear in traffic areas.

If you are wanting to keep your floor looking pristine having your marble floors cleaned and polished on a yearly basis is best.

People often will refer to etch marks as “water marks” because they look like a spill or take the shape of the bottom of a glass. Etching accrues when something acidic reacts and dissolves the calcium carbonate in the marble. If you would like to learn about DIY etch removal you can check out our blog, however most etching will need to be professionally removed.
