Honing, Polishing, and Refinishing
Does your limestone have dull areas associated with wear patterns, scratches, etches or spots? An uneven finish, dull spots or etches can diminish the elegant appearance of your limestone surfaces. Beyond Clean Tile can hone your limestone surfaces to eliminate these imperfections, resulting in a new limestone surface free of damage. With our limestone honing and polishing services, our expert technicians can achieve a honed or soft matte finish that is warm, inviting, and velvety smooth. We can also polish your limestone using the appropriate diamonds or polishing powders to achieve a semi-gloss or gloss finish.
Professional stone refinishing can often alter the finish of stone using various methods, even after it is installed. Our technicians are very knowledgeable and discuss with our customers the different types of finishes possible for their limestone floors or surfaces and the maintenance that is involved with each so that each customer can choose the type of finish they will love the look of but also one that fits their lifestyle. We can do a honed (egg shell finish), satin (gloss finish) or polished (high gloss finish).
Why is Beyond Clean Tile’s limestone refinishing processes superior to other polishing systems?
1. Our skilled technicians use resin diamonds to achieve the highest quality finish. Resin diamonds provide a better shine and a finish that will last longer than those refinished by diamond impregnated pads often used by others in the industry.
2. Our technicians are trained to use many different types of diamond and abrasives. This allows them to pick and use the best tools that will give you the highest quality of finish.
3. Our stone technicians work with natural stone daily and are well versed in stone identification and knowing the characteristics that make each stone unique. This allows them to perfect the art of stone restoration.
4. Our technicians can walk you though our maintenance best practices so you can keep your floors and countertops looking their best even after we leave.
Stone Surfaces Repair
Do you have chipped, cracked, or damaged limestone countertops or floors? Our expert limestone repair services include filling in chipped areas in limestone, fixing limestone cracks, blending the repair site with the surrounding area, and honing and polishing it to match the finish on the rest of your limestone surface.
Whether you are seeking guidance on how to remove limestone stains or discolorations yourself or want us to treat your limestone, most stains can be removed and the original finish of your stone can be restored.
Limestone floor and surfaces will benefit from periodic professional deep cleaning services, using non-acidic, highly-effective cleaning solutions and professional equipment. For limestone floor cleaning, our cleaning process begins with first mopping on non-acidic stone safe cleaner to loosen the dirt. Then we go over the floor with our truckmount system which rinses the floor with water that is 200 degrees fahrenheit and then extracts the cleaner and dirt using a vacuum. This process is called hot water extraction. With more heat throughout the job we are able to achieve a deeper and more consistent clean throughout the job. We also detail around the edges by hand to make sure all the details are taken care of. This process will only clean the floor and will not address damaged areas such as scratches, traffic pattern wear or etch marks. To remove the damage the floor must be refinished.
Cleaning limestone countertops or other surfaces can also be done but we often find that customers asking for this type of cleaning in order to remove stains and marks on the countertops often actually need the surfaces honed and refinished. Etch marks caused by strong acids such as orange juice or soda can not be removed by cleaning and will need to be refinished.
Limestone Sealing and Protecting
Limestone is easier to keep clean with periodic professional deep cleaning services, using non-acidic, highly-effective cleaning solutions. Once your limestone is cleaned and restored, we may recommend you have us seal it to enhance its stain resistance. We say, “May” because not all stone needs to be sealed. Highly polished limestone may not even take an impregnating sealer. But, if sealing is recommended, know that sealing represents an inexpensive, preventative measure against limestone stain damage.
There are many misconceptions about what a sealer does and doesn’t do. It is important to note that sealers do not prevent traffic patterns or etching. The surface of the stone is still vulnerable to acidic substances, scratches, dullness, and other damage. In addition, natural stone, even when it is properly sealed, is not stain proof, it is merely stain resistant. There are also new protective treatments that, unlike impregnating sealers, offer both etch and stain protection. We can give you recommendations based on your specific surfaces.

Limestone Cleaning and Restoration FAQ's
No. Our diamond refinishing process is done completely wet. We tape off all
surrounding areas with a plastic tape and waterproof tape to ensure your walls,
baseboards, cabinets, furniture and adjacent flooring is protected.
Limestone is fairly porous and if it is not sealed, it will absorb moisture and stain. Applied to natural stone to inhibit staining, sealers penetrate below the surface and protect the stone from within. They are formulated with water-repellent and oil-repellent substances.
